Authorities in Spain want Argentina and Barcelona star Lionel Messi to serve nearly two years in jail.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner will appear in court on June 2 over tax fraud allegations. Lionel Messi and his father Jorge, have been charged with three counts of tax fraud up to €4.1million. According to EFE, the Spanish agency, Messi will testify on Thursday.
The player has claimed he did not read critical documents before signing them as he prepares to face court over tax evasion and the state are asking that both father and son serve nearly two years in prison.
Messi said: “I trust my dad, who is in charge of my things, and who tells me what I do. I have signed things, but I never look at the contracts. I don’t know what I sign.
“It’s mine (the money). At the end of the year I see the summary of what I have, of what I have done in the year. But I don’t ask where the money comes from. I know what the club pays me, but nothing else, nothing else.”

Argentina national football team will have their captain in court, three days before Copa America match against Chile on June 6.
Although, the public prosecutor Raquel Amado is not prosecuting Leo Messi, just Jorge, but the defence is pushing for both to be acquitted.
